Communicating with God

Lin Dingyi Solo Exhibition

Jan.01 2020 - May.10

It has been 25 years since Lin Dingyi was connected with art.

He described his creative process in this way: "This is a kind of both spiritual and ideological extreme. This kind of extreme is needed in art as it is the process of revealing truth of the soul. What is really important to us cannot be seen by eyes only but also requires blessing from the soul."

Lin Dingyi repeatedly sensed, pondered and polished with stainless steel and red copper which seemed solid yet actually soft metal material. He sent a signal to God from his soul - "Yes, I am talking to you." Finally, he created his artwork for this exhibition "Communicating with God".

The three exhibition halls adapt all white or all black as the main tone. We have tried to separate the natural light, hoping to allow each visitor to feel the light of the work in a pure and undisturbed space, and grasp the beam of light in their heart.

He does not have many annotations regarding his work as the real art is to awaken the induction and cognition in every individual's heart.

Without the restriction caused by much description, visitors can perceive everything and feel more contented. "Communicating with God" does not refer specifically to which God, but the "One"who  talks to his own soul. This is true for Lin Dingyi, as well as for each visitor.

The 18th day of "Communicating with God", we tried to use a more relaxed way to make the connection between art and viewer warmer, so Chang Museum invited Zhenshuiwuxiang humanistic tea art studio to set up tea table inside the museum.

We set up tea table in the corridors between the three galleries. In the selection of tea, tea specialists chose Ali Mountain Tea, Fuding Peony King and Wuyishan Matouyan Cinnamon, which are representative of Fujian and Taiwan and consistent with the artistic conception of the exhibition.

Lin Dingyi has proposed many times that "art is a nutrient", which nourishes life, stimulates spiritual energy, and deepens people's experience of nature. Since ancient times, tea has been regarded as a national drink, which has the effect of making people feel energetic and pleasant.

It is obvious that we have found a wonderful common ground in the philosophical concept of tea culture and art. Artwork requires the artist to blend his heart and mind in it; the tea ceremony is self-cultivation, and every cup of tea is an artwork created by the tea specialist. We do not want to rank these two realms, perhaps they are one.

Special thanks to the arrival of 6 tea specialists (set forth in no particular order):

Long Peiling | Wang Yan | Lin Zhiqiang | Yu Weixian | Liu Juan | Luo Shuilin

Zhenshuiwuxiang humanistic tea art studio was founded in Xiamen by Taiwanese tea specialist Long Peiling. "Zhenshuiwuxiang" represents the cohesion of spirit and the status of living in the moment in Sanskrit. In Long Peiling's teaching thought, the another meaning of it is to guide the qualifications of students like inducing the fragrance of tea, and inspire their beauty.
